Code Composer Installation does not provide any Eclipse capabilities

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

I downloaded and installed TI's code composer: CCS5.1.1.00031_win32.zip under Windows 7 (32-bit) to play with an MSP430 Launchpad board.  I followed the instructions in the LaunchPad.pdf document.  I already had Eclipse Indigo 3.7.1 installed, but I had to install the CDT.  I rebooted Windows and Eclipse still runs, but when I run Code Composer, there are not any changes or options for the TI License or project files.  I checked Eclipse under Help/About/Installation Details, and it shows the plug-ins for Code Composer.  If I attempt to re-install, it shows that I already have Code Composer installed.  There is no option under Help for "Code Composer Studio Licensing Information", so I presume the problem is that I don't have any license file defined.  And I don't have any options available to create a CCS Project.  Any hints or pointers on how I can resolve this problem.

Note the Launchpad hardware comes up and runs when I plug it into the USB port, (COM6), so the driver appears to be working okay.

I also have IAR installed, which I was using previously for the ez430 USB board.  I'll give that a try, but I would like to resolve the installation problem with Code Composer.

  • Hi Duane,

please see this wiki and keep us informed.

  • The instructions on the wiki page are what I followed originally.  Since I had Eclipse Indigo 3.7.1 already installed, all I did was to add the latest version of the CDT prior to installing CCS.  The only that that was unclear is whether or not cygwin or mingw are required.  I didn't install these because they were not mentioned in the TI instructions.

I've installed the latest version of Eclipse, but did not re-install CCS.  I still have the same problem, there are no CCS options available in Eclipse, (i.e, the project wizard does not show the code composer studio option under "other". ...no license link under Help.

  • Hi Duane,

and if you manually go into other do you not get CCS Project?  Have you tried starting from scratch with the version of Eclipse linked to?  I did not have to install CDT extra etc and I amwondering whether CCS only works off of a specific base as a plug-in.  Your description of installing this and that in no particular order sounds like it could be problematic.

Also try running from the CCS icon.  Or rerunning the CCS installer.

    Please keep us informed.

  • Lisa,

I installed the latest version of cygwin for the CDT that would allow Eclipse to be used for C coding.

Then I uninstalled, rebooted, then re-installed Code Composer Studio V5, (I didn't uninstall the Visual Studio 2008 that it had previously installed).

So I have the latest version of Eclipse and the CDT and nonbeta version of Code Composer Studio under 32-bit version of Windows 7.

When I restarted CCS after the installation, I got the "License Setup Wizard".

Now the CCS options are available, so I can use it.

I'm not sure what the issue was...could have been cygwin, but that wasn't mentioned in the documentation, but is required for CDT.

Thanks for the feedback/help. I'm good to go for now.

  • Hi Duane,

ok, very glad to hear it is now working.

    All the best with development.
