ccs4 latest not connect with exp.board F28035

hello

i try to write and run a code for F28035 with CCS4 instead CCS3.3

whe i try to connect to exp. board the ccs4 give all time  this message:

Error connecting to the target:
Error 0x80000200/-1047
Fatal Error during: OCS,
PTI_ERR_EMU_CLOSE Error Occured at 0x00000000

i check and select  more times the right target  and emulator XDS100V1 USB or XDS100V2 USB (why 2 emul.and what's the difference ?)

but not connect

the exp. board in CCS 3.3 latest  working fine , in the same PC i have installed all ccs3.3 and ccs4 ,  and i try to run with another PC but the result it's the same : not connect .

thanks for help

Mario

  • Mario,

Unfortunately the tools team never saw this post as we only monitor the tools forums.  Are you still having this issue?  If so we would like to help you get past this.

XDS100v1 and XDS100v2 are different hardware revisions of the emulator.  Yours is likely a v1 and if it is built onto the exp. board then it is definitely a v1.

    hello TI people..

are there realized to me ??

    good morning.

I have seen many problems with CCS4 that they have scared to me and that they have made to think me if this is the right choice..of C2000 mcu.

after a lot of time spent to install and remove some version of ccs4 , i can run latest version of ccs4 ONLY on a desktop pc whit W7-pro but normally i working whit a laptop pc and the CCS4 dont' run in nobody of these (4 types of portable) , now i'm writing whit asus laptop with vista pro and with CCS4 i succeed on to compile a prj but don't load in a mcu (f28035 exp kit) because don't connect in any way both XDS100 ON BOARD IN F28035 OR USB C2000 BH EMULATOR OR XDS100 OLIMEX INTERFACE i buy a lot of interface and more exp kit and renewable energy kit and digital power kit for start and project and use your mcu for NOTHING...

they are successful to connect  with an xds100 olimex usb-interface olnly when i installed latest version of ccs4 on a DESKTOP PC but not with the ON BOARD XDS100 !!!

    CLEAR ??

this is the last message showed when i attempt to connect the target , the ide shut down all and appears this message

whit CCS4 installed in a laptopt pc i'm not never successful to load the program in a target mcu... only with CCS 3 demo version naturally but isn't good for write a true programs.

why do you still use a DEBUG PLATFORM with a JAVA VM ???

who is the author of this insane chosen ????

second me JAVA is not reliable for industrial or similar applications , have a lot of trouble that all knows... !!!

after to decide to write in this forum i called in my country TI app. engineers for to explain my problems and they answered to me that they knew very well of the problems of this compiler  because did not work not even to they , and they advised to let me of to leave to lose ccs4 and to use the oldest version CCS3.3

I would be content himself me and I would rethink to return to use your MCU if you give me a good compiler , not a toy for a kid ..even if the old version enough that working and don't make lose more time for install try and remove a lot of time...

    i truly am disappointed ...

    hope in a your reply..

    p.s.

like write in another post i order a freescale EVM ...

    kind regards

    mario

  • Hello Mario,

I'm sorry to hear of your difficult experience with using CCSv4. Migrating to the v4 environment from v3 can sometimes be difficult, especially if you are comfortable with the v3 environment. We tried to make the migration smooth but obviously we still have a lot of work to do to improve things. To help get started, have you seen this Getting Start Guide for C2000?

Regarding your various connect issues... if I understand correctly, you have a desktop PC with Windows 7 and laptops with Vista Pro, is this correct? What bit OS are the Windows 7 on the desktop and Vista Pro on the laptop (32-bit or 64-bit OS)?

On your Windows 7 Desktop, you can run CCSv4 and connect with an Olimex XDS100, but not the onboard XDS100v1 emulation.

On your asus Vista Pro laptop you are using right now, you can build your projects but you cannot connect to your board (28035) at all using any emulatior.

Other laptops, CCS does not run at all.

    Correct?

That last error message indicates there was a crash with CCS (IDE shut down). If that happened, there may be a crash file generated from CCS. The location will be: <INSTALL DIR>\ccsv4\DebugServer\win32\components\Log. If there is some files in that directory with extension *.dmp, can you attach the file to this forum thread? That file can help us understand why you had a crash.

Regarding why we went with a Java based environment, it is because CCSv4 is based off the Eclipse open source IDE framework, which is written in Java. Eclipse is gaining popularity as an IDE and many companies besides TI have also started to leverage Eclipse for their embedded development environment (ARM, MontaVista, QNX, WindRiver, etc). Leveraging Eclipse, we gain a lot of benefits, including being able to leverages hundreds of Eclipse plug-ins written by the community.

Also, if you wish to remain on CCSv3.3, you can continue to do so. It is still supported by TI. Even though we enourage people to move to v4, there are still many who continue to use v3.3. But I hope to help you have a better experience with CCSv4.

    Thanks

    ki

  • Mario,

On Windows Vista and WIndows 7 I would suggest installing somewhere other than Program files.  This is because these OSs really don't like applications writing to the program files directory which CCS does when launching a debug session.  This is mainly a problem when running without Admin privileges or running with UAC on.

Another thing to try is to bypass the CLA in your target configuration.  The CLA is an extra accelerator that is present on the F28035 devices.  To bypass this you can open your target configuration file (.ccxml), click on the advanced tab at the bottom, select CLA in the tree that appears, check the box on the right to make it a bypass and hit save.

Hopefully you can now launch your debug session.

If you don't want to bypass the CLA another thing to try is to go to your project, right click and select Debug Properties.  Click on the Debugger Tab, change the first selection to "Connect to exact CPU" and make sure the F28x is selected in the drop down box and not the CLA (this info is at the end of the text in the box).

    Regards,

    John

  • Mario,

Not sure if you have had a chance to try the workarounds.  We have filed a defect for the issue with CCS getting confused between the CLA and C28x core when doing a debug active project.  SDSCM00035397

You can track the status of this or any other defect in the SDOWP link in my signature.  The goal is to have that defect fixed in the next service release (4.1.2)

    Regards

    John

  • I my name's Angelo

I have the same problem when i want connect my f28335 delfino experiment kit. CCS4 crshes when i try to start debug.

I think is a problem of windows 7, because in my old laptop with windows xp I didn't find this problem.

My ccs4 version is Version: 4.1.2.00027 and on my S.O is windows 7 32 bit.

Do you have some suggestions about this problem?

    Thanks

    Angelo

  • Angelo,

Did you install CCS in a directory outside of C:\Program Files(x86) as mentioned here: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Running_CCStudio_v3.3_on_Windows_Vista#CCSv4?

Could you try updating to the latest CCS 4.1.3 and let us know if you still experience the same problem? You can update by going to Help->Software Updates->Find and Install.

If you still experience a problem with CCS 4.1.3 (assuming it a crash and not a connection error), please provide additional information and error logs as mentioned here:
    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_CCS#CCS_Diagnostic_Logs
We could start with Eclipse error logs, crash dump files and JVM error logs.

  • Problem solved,

I updated to the latest  CCS 4.1.3  and now the debugger seems to run perfectly.

    Thanks

    Angelo
