How to FLASH a device with CCS 4.x when all we got is JTAG...

I have asked this before and also se other asking this, but there are no acceptable answers.

We got ONLY  JTAG, and the XDS512(plus) interface. With CC 2.21 we used FlasBurn, that is no longer supported.

So how can I, in my lab Load the FLASH ????

I got a 5509A device so the software that comes with the eZDSP USB STICK can NOT be used. And the source code seems not available.

At the moment we must keep one system running the old CC 2.21, but this is unacceptable.

I can write software that uses RTDX, but now that is no longer supported either...

And we GOT NO SERIAL PORT ....

  • Terje,

    A few clarifications:

    - I don't quite understand what you are trying to achieve. Are you trying to flash a 5509A board with a newer version of CCS?

    - Also, is the kit you have the DSK5509A from Spectrum Digital and you are are you using its embedded XDS510USB emulator?

If so, the flash memory of this development board is only programmable using the Flashburn utility - this utility is supported up to CCS version 3.3.

If you have a custom board, Software Design Solutions sells the Flashburn source code (called porting kit) - also supported up to CCS version 3.3.

If you are trying to use CCSv4 to flash this board, you will have to contact the owners of both products and see if they have other alternatives available. The DSK board is property of Spectrum Digital and the Flashburn software is property of Software Design Solutions.

Unfortunately in the meantime you will have to keep the previous version of CCS to flash the development board.

    I apologize for the inconvenience,

    Rafael

  • Rafael,

Yes, I am trying to flash a 5509A board with CCS 4.x that is the version you're sales rep. recommend as of the last year.'

It  is a custom board, and yes we are using the XDS510USB-plus and the drivers that are build into CCS 4.x

We no longer got any older CCS installed, as we se issues with different versions of CC on one computer. The CCS4.x got enough issues as it got.

I am just surprised that the supplier of both the DSP it self, and the development tools, got NO solutions to how to actually flash a 5509A based DSP board!!!!!

  • How about for all of us in the world that were misled into buying CCS v4.x ALL version, we get a FREE copy of CCS v3.3 ALL so that we can actually do what Sales promised us we could do?

  • Hello,

We have exactly the same issue as stated before. We have bought what we were advised to by TI support (XDS510 USB + CCS V4), and now we find out that we can not write the flash memory with CCS V4. The investment represents a considerable amount of money, and we can not do anything with it.

From looking into forums, I have seen that this problem is there for a while, and that since no solution has been provided either by SDS, TI, or third party. I would expect from TI a bit more professionalism than just say "we have no solution, there might be one later" or "buy the CCS V3.3 instead".

  • We were lucky enough to have (quote-unquote) UPGRADED to CCSv4, and still had a functional copy of CCSv3.3.
My only question is where people like yourself are expected to purchase a license of 3.3?

  • PS: Somethings wrong with this forum editor. I hade to move to FireFox as IE just did not work...

  • It turns out to be quite posible to write custom DSP code that will act as FLASH tools.

We use this now, and we can flash faster than ever. All we do is load .out file, run, enter filename, and we are done, all from within CCS4.

I can deliver .out files for you're custom project or even full source code, for a small fee.

All I need is DSP type and clock speed, FLASH type and flash memory map.

    Best regards

    Hello Terje,

I might be interested by your solution. What do you call a "small fee" ?

    Regards,

  • It will take to days to extract, modify and document the code + a day support. So to make an .out file you can load on you're system that will take an input file and flash, unless you got a wery exotic system will cost in the area of 2K US$ . If you want the full source code we will have to discuss this offline.

You can reach me on my email "teni@9tek.no"
