reference discussion on msp430-elf bug reports

TI folks monitoring this: please be aware of this E2E thread which asks where bugs for the new MSP430 GCC toolchain should be reported.  Nobody from TI has responded; it'd be nice to have clear direction, at least for bugs that are only present in the CCS fork.

Also, the code generation bug reported there is real.  If TI can help ensure Red Hat gets it fixed we'd all appreciate it.

  • I'm sorry for the delay.  For future reference, this compiler forum is the best place to notify us about problems with the GCC MSP430 compiler.  Please pass that news along.

A  problem report has been filed directly with Redhat.  In addition, SDSCM00051204 is filed in the SDOWP system.  The purpose of the SDOWP entry is so you can, with the link below in my signature, track the availability of a package released by TI which fixes this problem.

I appreciate the detailed report on the GCC bugzilla.  The Redhat problem report directly refers to it for all the low level details.

    Thanks and regards,

    -George

  • Thanks.  Would you be able to convince somebody to update the "Support and Community" section of http://www.ti.com/tool/msp430-gcc-opensource and the "MSPGCC Support" link at the bottom of http://software-dl.ti.com/msp430/msp430_public_sw/mcu/msp430/MSPGCC/latest/index_FDS.html to directly reference this forum?  Saying "Go to E2E" isn't particularly helpful: a lot of us don't think of msp430-elf as a TI compiler because we use it direct from GNU, so the MSP430 forum is a more obvious choice for questions and bug reports.

(While you're at it, please get everybody to change "MSPGCC" to "msp430-elf GCC" (or "GCC MSP430" if you must) in that link name and anywhere it appears, unless it's specifically referring to mspgcc, an unrelated port started over ten years ago that msp430-elf gcc replaces.  A fair number of folks still use mspgcc, which was never supported by TI and is not supported even by me anymore.)

The fix is now available upstream.  Thanks for getting Red Hat to look at this.
