Is there a USB driver available to talk to DLP LightCrafter board?

No, the DLP LightCrafter DM365 software is using USB in USB gadget mode a.k.a Ethernet over USB mode. When connected to PC it is recognized as Ethernet device and uses RNDIS – Remote Driver Interface Specification driver to communicate with the DLP LightCrafter.

    I've tried connecting the lightcrafter through usb to two windows 7 professional 64bit computers. I've followed the directions in the user manual but when trying to install the remote NDIS compatible device driver I consistently get a code 10 error: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". Any advise?

    We have been using LightCrafter on a couple of 64-bit Windows 7 computers here without issue. Seems Windows 7 installs the incorrect driver and you need to remove it before installing the new one. Windows 7 includes two drivers, one under Microsoft and another under Microsoft Corporation. Use the "Microsoft Corporation" one.

    The code 10 errors are due to corrupt drivers, so you will need to uninstall it and re-install it. To uninstall, go to the device manager (Control Panel -> System and Security -> System -> Device Manager) and remove the networking entries for RNDIS. Look under Network adapters, select RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget and right-click uninstall. Then install following the steps in the LightCrafter User's Guide.

    I have repeated the above protocol several times yesterday and today without luck. I was careful to pick microsoft corporation. I have a laptop which is 64bit windows 7 (home, not professional), which had no problem connecting to the device, but these windows 7 professional desktops continually give me the code 10 error. Would it be possible to get a link to download these drivers explicitly? Maybe that would help...

    I have the same problem on 32-bit Windows 7 Enterprise edition. Even if I reinstall the correct driver I get the code 10 error.

    Have you tested the USB connection with windows 7 professional? I have successfully installed the driver after connecting the device with computers running Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Ultimate editions, but no luck with my computer running windows 7 professional (all 64 bit), even after I did a clean re-install of the OS. Those other 2 versions of windows superficially seem to have media abilities not built into professional, could that be a problem? Again, could a driver be made available for download?

  • I have it working under Windows 7 Profession x64 so I imagine that isn't the issue.  If it helps anyone the driver used on my computer was found at C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\usb8023.sys

    Provider: Microsoft Corporation

    File Version 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255)

    In USB Ethernet/RNDIS Gadget properties under the driver tab the driver provider appears to be "Acer Incorporated", Driver Date 1/13/2010 and driver version 1.0.0.0.

  • On my Win 7 computer, only some of the USB ports work. On the ports that did not work, however, the LightCrafter device showed up as "unknown" under USB controllers, rather than as "RNDIS" device.

    I have seen the same behavior on my computer running on Windows XP.  We have acknowledged the issue and still exploring on it.

    From your post, I understand the you are able to connect LightCrafter to the computer through USB. Please let us know if you need any help.

  • Marc, Some USB ports on a PC have an internal USB hub. It will help us debug this issue if you can indicate if the port that did not work had a hub or not. I have also seen that Windows assigns a driver to each port. Sometimes, there is some issue and I needed to uninstall the driver on the problematic port and reinstall it.
  • So this worked with two computers I tried it on - a HP z200 SFF workstation (Win7 x64) and an early 2011 Apple MBP (boot camp, Win 7 x64).  I now am trying to get this driver working on a Dell Precision T5500 (Win7 32bit) and its doing the code 10 thing.  On the T5500 the RNDIS device appearws on Port_#0001.Hub_#0004 and only "USB Root Hub" devices appear in device manager (no "Generic" hubs).  On my MBP it appears as Port_#0003.Hub_#0006, which is not one of the hubs in "Generic USB Hubs".  The MBP and z200 only contain EHCI controllers where as the Dell has 2 EHCI and 6 UHCI.

    I think this is the same problem with this post on Microsoft's forums here which unfortunately went unresolved.

  • As an update to my previous post, I installed a EHCI PCI USB card and the device is recognized on that.  Looks like thats your only chance if you're on a Dell workstation...

    Can you please recommend the brand and model number of EHCI PCI USB card that you used?  We are facing the same problem trying to get the lightcrafter to work on a Dell T5500.  Also, I am curious whether you tried any of the internal USB ports.  The T5500 spec sheet lists 11 USB ports: 2 front panel, 6 back panel, and three internal ones on the motherboard.  Thanks!

    I have 64bit Windows 7 running on a Dell Precision M6500. None of the USB ports worked so far. It's always recognized as a USB controller.

    We have tested different configurations of PC's and various USB 2.0 and 3.0 Ports. One of the reasons could be the bug in the Linux Kernel 2.6.32 as mentioned here.

    We are in the process of updating the Linux kernel to check if this is the issue. Meanwhile, could you try to connect the USB cable with a Hub in between the PC and cable.

    Has this problem been resolved yet? Is there an updated Linux kernel available? I also have the problem with the USB connection on Windows 7 64-bit on a SuperMicro SuperServer 7046GT-TRF-TC4.

    The USB  problem appears to be due to prematurely connecting the USB cable.

    Can you please follow the below procedure in specified order,

    - Disconnect the LightCrafter from PC (power off the LightCrafter)

    - Disable all the network connections(even WiFi)

    - Reboot the computer and wait for a complete start up

    -  Power up the LightCrafter and wait for the vertical color bars to display

    - Connect the LightCrafter to the PC via USB to the new/ different port on the PC

    - Auto install the driver as instructed in the DLP LightCrafter's User's Guide (link )

    - Wait for the installation and network address assignment to complete
