LIght Crafter driver shows and dissapears

Hi,

I've just bought a DLP Light Crafter. I have tried to connect it to a PC (Win 7 x64), new device was found and I managed to install drivers according to user's guide section 2.4. Everything would be great but after I got the message that the driver was installed succesfully i cannot make a connection using GUI (connection error).

I checked the windows device manager and it appeared that the device shows up and dissapears.

This is the first run of a Light Crafter and I don't want to mess it up. I appreciate any help.

  • Hi Marcin,

Welcome to TI DLP E2E Forum.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused with the USB connection. Can you please try the following,

Uninstall the RNDIS driver (To uninstall, go to the device manager (Control Panel -> System and Security -> System -> Device Manager) and remove the networking entries for RNDIS. Look under Network adapters, select RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget and right-click uninstall.) and reinstall it following the instructions specified in User's guide.

In case the driver does not install automatically, please unzip the attached file below and see if the USB connection is recognized in the Device Manager.

  • Hi Divya,

I did what you tell but it didn't change anything. The device works still the same. What can be wrong?

  • Hi Marcin,

The problem does not appear to be with the driver. Can you connect a USB hub in between to see if the connection is stable.

Also, could you provide the snapshot of the Device Manager - Network Adapters.

    Regards,

    Divya

  • Hi Divya,

Connecting the Light Crafter using USB hub didnt change anything but I only have a passive USB hub (this can be a problem). I enclosed a screenshot of device manager.

    regards,

    Marcin

  • Marcin,

Your Device Manager is showing that the RNDIS driver has been properly installed. This the way it should look. When you unplug the LCr USB while watching the Device Manager, do you see the RNDIS driver disappear after a few seconds?

We have tried several passive USB hubs which have worked, when it was not working when directly plugged into the PC USB port. So, that shouldn't be a problem. In fact, the DM is showing that the LCr is being recognized and the driver registered. You should then be able to connect to it from the LCr control program. If that is not possible, then something else is wrong.

    Best regards,

    Pascal

  • LCr disappears after few seconds when I unplug it from the USB port. I found that the device disconnects when one of the LEDs on the top board is changing the color from green to red.

Even if i can see LCr in DM for a few seconds I still can't connect using LCr control program. I checked the firewall (MS Security Essentials with Windows Firewall) and its still the same.

  • Marcin,

This is a little confusing. Are you saying that the RNDIS driver disappears while the LCr is still plugged in? Or does the RNDIS only disappear when you unplug the LCr?

Are you saying that the RNDIS shows up in DM as you show in your snapshot only for a few seconds, then disappears?

Of course, you can't connect to the LCr using the control program when the RNDIS driver is not showing in DM.

Yes, this is what I'm trying to say.

Yes, of course but I try during this few seconds I can see it in DM and still have a connection error on LCr app.

  • Marcin,

OK. Thanks for clarifying this. The RNDIS driver should not be disappearing from DM while the LCr is plugged in. Until that problem is solved, there is no reason to attempt to connect to it from the LCr Control program. You need to be able to plug the LCr in and get a RNDIS showing in DM without disappearing. Until then, the other problems don't matter.

Have you had a chance to try the LCr on another computer? Did it work there? Have you tried more than one USB hub? Have you tried more than one USB port on the same computer?

    Best regards,

    Pascal

  • I am aware that I should solve a problem with USB connection at first.

    Yes I made following tests:

    - with another computer - yes

    - with another USB hub - no

    - with various USB ports - yes

I changed the USB cable too, but the situation is still the same.

  • Problem solved. It looks like the power supply didn't give enough current. I changed the power supply and now problem with dissapearing LCr is gone, connection works fine.

  • Marcin,

Great news! I'll have to remember your experience to help others. Make sure the power supply is adequate!

    Best regards,
