Hi,

I have a question about the Bluetooth portion of the 1271. There is a vendor command to set the Bluetooth Address. I need to know what needs to occur in order to use this to set the Bluetooth Address to something custom (ie: is there a procedure that must be followed before the new address can be used or do you issue the command and and it takes effect instantly). Also, how many times can this address be changed – (I assume there is a flash block that contains the address so I would like to know how many writes we can perform before we can reasonably expect a flash failure)?

Hello Gunter,

The "Send_HCI_VS_Write_BD_ADDR 0xFC06" command can be used as many times as you want, even though in a real scenario you may change it at most one time. There are no restrictions regarding when to send it, however, you may want to include this command at the end of the Service Pack. This new address is stored in RAM and therefore it will be lost after every power cycle, meaning that you have to send this command every time that you boot up the device.

Hello Miguel,

I an using WL1271 on AM3505 EVM. I could not find "Send_HCI_VS_Write_BD_ADDR" API or call anywhere in wilink package. Can you please tell me how can I invoke this command to change bluetooth MAC address?

Krunal,

You can send any HCI cmd using the hcitool. In this case, you should use the "hcitool cmd 0xgf 0xcf params" option.

During “hciattach” execution, BlueZ reads the local BD_ADDR immediately after downloading the initscript (BTS file) and stores
this info in the file system (/var/lib/bluetooth/ folder).

Initiating HCI_VS_Write_BD_Addr right after “hciattach” updates only the BD_ADDR of the device (WL1271); the info in the file system

is not updated (e.g. we get the old info when running “hciconfig”).

Can we initiate HCI_VS_Write_BD_Addr BEFORE “hciattach”?

What is the recommended procedure to update the info in the file system?

Have you tried "hciconfig reset" after executing the "hci_vs_write_bd_addr" command?

“hciconfig hci0 reset” re-configures the info stored in the file system.

I tried to change BD_ADDR of WL18xx (new MAC: ) with this sequence but no success. Could you help?
