Peripheral UUID?

In order to understand the SensorTag code, I'm running with the iOS Bluetooth app built from source code.

When this App discovers the SensorTag it shows the name of the tag and the UUID of the tag.

I can see the name of the tag is defined in the SensorTag.c file.

How is the UUID defined? Is this number unique to each device? How is it generated? Does the SensorTag application do anything to define this number, or is that all handled inside the TI Protocol stack binary?

Hi YiKai, Thanks for the pointers. I think I understand the way TI has defined the UUIDs for the Services and Characteristics.

My question is not about these UUIDs - its about the UUID I see for the device itself. This seems to be different for every device (I have two SensorTags and they have very different UUIDs).

I'm asking how these UUIDs for the device are created?

And is this device-UUID something that my application needs to help create, or is it all done under-the-covers so I don't need to worry about it? I don't see anything in the SensorTag code...

Hi Mike,

The device UUID as seen on the iOS device is made (seemingly at random) by iOS.

Hmmm, interesting. Any idea if this is constant - i.e. does the "random number" stay the same for each device or does it vary over time for a single device?
