Transparent Ethernet link over G3-PLC

The Xport can act as a virtual com-port, the same as an FTDI would do for usb-to-serial. So it should be plug and play.

That would be the setup if you run virtual com-ports on your PC's and the app is using the com-port. This indeed should work without any software work.

I am not sure if Xport handles IPv6 (it has been a few years since I have used one myself), you will have to download the datasheet.

If you need the high speed of ethernet you will have to look to broadband powerline solutions (many commercially available: Devolo, ...).
