TMS320F28069M: Future of InstaSPIN-MOTION

Part Number: TMS320F28069M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE, C2000WARE, DESIGNDRIVE

I read in this link: that the motorware library collection is not getting any new updates after the v18 release. Is this true, and if so, where can I get more information on this?

Also, it is mentioned that the InstaSPIN-MOTION part of the library will not be supported for the new 28004x family. Will the InstaSPIN-MOTION part of the library be scrapped completely, or will it be included in the C200Ware library collection? And if so, what processor families will/are supporting InstaSPIN-MOTION?

Any general links with more information is very appreciated. Is there any news blog or something that I have missed? Twitter?

Br,

  • InstaSPIN-MOTION is available - and will continue to be available - on Piccolo F2806xM and F2805xM series, supported in MotorWare v18 with no further MotorWare updates planned.  We will not have any additional InstaSPIN-MOTION support going forward.

C2000Ware MotorControl SDK will be release in 2019.

It will support InstaSPIN-FOC for Piccolo F28004x series as well as DesignDRIVE solutions for F28004x and Delfino F2837x series.

The SDK will also serve as the single spot for all Motor Control software solutions going forward.

  • Am I understanding this correctly if I say that DesignDRIVE will be the successor of InstaSPIN-MOTION "in essence"? Will it be able to do all the work that InstaSPIN-MOTION currently is doing for MotorWare?
  • It is the successor in that DesignDRIVE will be the solution for sensored motor control going forward.

    we explain the positioning here

  • just to be clear, today DesignDRIVE does not have all the capabilities of InstaSPIN-MOTION.
It does not include inertia ID.
Does not have the SpinTAC controller (but we do offer a different unique controller and higher speed current control loop in DesignDRIVE)
Does not include any of the trajectory generation or motion creation.
  • Hi,

I am sorry Chris, I am not feeling that I am getting the point here. Looking at the link you provided I was unable to find a clear answer to my question.

Is there something of the sorts of Position_Move, Position_Control, Position_Convert state machines or similar end functionality included in the DesignDRIVE package, now or planned in the future? Or is the DesignDRIVE package differently architectured all together?

    Br
  • DesignDRIVE is not a drop in replacement and does not have many of the features of InstaSPIN-MOTION.

It is a very different architecture and set of features to address sensored motor control. DesignDRIVE is certainly more useful to those with extensive experience in servo controls who often have their own motion and trajectory IP.
