DRV8825EVM Software Installation Issue

Expert 3801 points
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8825EVM, DRV8802EVM

I am having an issue with installing the executable (setup.exe) in the application folder for the DRV8825EVM.

www.ti.com/.../drv8825evm

I followed the ReadMe file steps found in the slvc502a.zip folder:

  • I was able to successfully install the USB driver
  • Connected the EVM to the computer
  • Once I began to install the executable (\application\setup.exe) I received the error message 'Cannot Start Application'
    • The OS is Windows 7, and is supported with the EVM application

Has anyone come across a similar issue, or would you happen to know why this may be occurring? I appreciate your help in advance and let me know if you have any questions that would help in this effort.

  • Hi Javier,

There were reports of a similar problem last year. Please see LINK for details.

Please let us know if this is the similar problem you are seeing.

  • Rick,

I went ahead and walked my customer through the steps taken in the post, and unfortunately that did not solve the problem. We tried removing the \Apps\2.0\ directory to try to get the executable to run with no success, and then I verified that they have the necessary runtime libraries installed on their PC.

I myself was able to successfully install the executable and have not been able to produce the error.

The exact error the customer is getting when running the executable as an admin is shown below:

I am not sure where to go from here, I looked up if there could be any similar issues online. I'll find out if I can get a hold of the 'details' of the issue so maybe we can get a better understanding.

    -Javier

  • Hi Javier,

Please try to gather as much information as possible. Ask the customer to click details and provide this log. Also system information, computer model, operating system, and programs loaded if possible can help.

We have used Dell and Toshiba laptops with no problems.
  • Good Morning Rick,

  • Hello,

I am having the same problem with the same error messages. Was this ever resolved?

    -S. Smith

  • Hi Stephanie,

As far as I know, it was not. These problems have been very hard to debug.

Please confirm which OS are you using.
  • Hi Stephanie,

    Please try the following.

Go to the DRV8802EVM tool folder. You will find the file listed you requested under DRV88xx Software (Rev. C). The GUI in the application folder can be used for multiple devices. Select the appropriate tab.

The direct link to the file is http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slvc342   ( updated with correct link )

This GUI has worked for others in the past. See link e2e.ti.com/.../2112178 for details.

  • Hi Rick,

I am not having any success trying to run setup from the applications folder. When I do, I get an error message "Application download did not succeed. Check your network connection, or contact your administrator." When I look at the details, they are very similar to those reported earlier in the thread by someone else (I copied mine below).

I am running Windows 10, my network connection for all other purposes is fine.

    Thanks,

    Stephanie

  • Hi Stephanie,

Did you try the link www.ti.com/.../slvc342 which is an earlier version of the GUI?
  • Yes, I did try that version.

  • Hi Stephanie,

For the earlier version, please set the compatability mode of the setup.exe file to Windows XP service pack 3 and report the problem is corrected.
  • Hi Rick,

I did finally have some success after running the program in XP compatibility mode. After completely deleting and re-installing the slv342 version, I found that there was no more setup.exe folder, but the readme says to use CPG004-5_DRV88xxEVM_R1p1 in the Application folder, which did work in compatibility mode.
