Hi,

Can anyone explain the bleed current path and power loss calculation during passive balancing using external MOSFETs while charging??

Hi Anson,

Please refer to the datasheet section 9.2.1.2.11.3 for an overview of the power dissipated calculation equaling mostly the i^2*R drop of your cb resistance and rdson of whatever FET you choose, so worst case scenario would be at the highest cell balancing current you intend to use and at high temps. The calculation of the Req can be found in section 4.2 of the design recommendations app note.

Hi Anson,

Taylor is on business trip.
Basically, they are to protect Vgs of the FET.
1K is to limit the current doing hot plug.
If you have high Vgs spec then you might not need the Zener.
