Hi,

We want to use the BQ24195L for GSM application as shown in the screenshot below. we wonder if the component needs a special configuration through I2C to work or it is possible to start and work properly without need for I2C exchange with MCU?

The answer is :

The bq24298 is an I2C controlled power path management device and a single cell Li-Ion battery charger without standalone mode for default setting.

Hey Haithem,

While these parts are I2C controlled, they still operate when there is no Host. In this mode, all register parameters have default values, which may or may not be suitable to your application.

In regards to Standalone operation, do you mean being able to change some of these parameters through external hardware?

Standalone mode mean that the BQ can stand alone and start working with a default setting fixed with an external resistors, and without need for I2C communication during stratup sequense and during normal operation.
As example :
- The BQ24032 support only the Standalone mode.
- The BQ24250 support two mode the 1) I2C mode, and 2) standalone
- The BQ24195 Only I2C mode.

Hey Haithem,

Thank you for your comments. You are correct in your description of what we call standalone mode.

However, we do not want customers to assume that our I2C controlled chargers will not operate if there is no host interaction. Only that there will be no configuration flexibility without the communication.

Did you mean that Charger with only I2C mode like the BQ24195 have a default configuration that enable it to start up normally?
