TMP007

Hello,

What is the response time of the TMP007 IR temperature sensor?  Please let me know.

Thanks.

  • Hi Miles,

Our IR temp sensor expert is out this week, he will be able to provide a more insightful answer to your question when he comes back.

Meanwhile I will try to analyze the question intuitively, a caution though my analysis may be totally wrong.

TMP007 is in a WCSP package, therefore the thermal path is direct, and heating can take effect immediately. In an ideal situation, the response time should be on the order of the temperature conversion time or 250mS. The response time should also be distance-independent with proper calibration, again assuming ideal situation.

In reality, the response time will be affected by many factors, such as heat radiation and air flow. Both are present when conducting a step response test, especially when distance is small. These effects are real and result in a lot of noise in the measurement; it will take much longer for TMP007 to measure the true temperature. My guess is the response time is application dependent and lab test won’t be a much reliable indicator of the real world.

    Regard, Guang
