Need a voltage level Translator for Ethernet RMII Interface 3.3V-5V

Dear Team,

In my board a SOM is communicating with uC via Ethernet.

It is a mac to mac communication.

SOM is working at 3.3V and Ethernet at 5V.

May I know does TI have any level shifter IC for converting between 3.3V and 5V for Ethernet.

Hello Hari,

We don't have level shifters that are specifically designed for Ethernet applications however we do have devices that can translate from 3.3V and 5V. Either our LXC or TXU families will work here.

The LXC family, like the SN74LXC2T45 are bi-direction controlled level shifters that have a voltage range from 1.1 V to 5.5 V. While the TXU family, like the TXU0104 are fixed direction level shifters with similar voltage ranges.

Thank you.

I need minimum 7 channels.

Will this TXB0108 fit for my application.It's speed is exact 100Mbps will be risky I belive

Hello Hari,

RMII needs a clock reference of 50 MHz which is also the max data rate of the TXB0108 translator. This device should work here. I would also recommend adding the TXB0108 into a test board to ensure this device meets your system's timing requirements.

Note: Since this is an auto-direction translator, this device has very low drive strength. The TXB0108 should be placed as close as possible between the back-to-back Macs.
