SMJ320C6701-SP: DSP for G.729

Part Number: SMJ320C6701-SP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SMV320C6727B-SP

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am making a proposal with SMJ320C6701-SP and SMV320C6727B-SP to a space customer.

Do these parts support ITU-U G.729 like TMS320C54x? If so, there is a application note for TMS320C54x, I am wondering if there is same documentation for those SP parts.

Best,

  • As you probably are aware G.729 is a 8-kbit/s voice codec that 20-30 years ago needed to be programmed in assembly on a DSP of those days to run at real-time. The C5x was one such DSP and the document you refer to is about that optimized implementation. On modern processors and compilers this will run fine compiled from high level language such as C, without need for device specific hand optimization.

For an optimized C6x DSP you can look at https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spra564b for guidelines. C67x DSP is a superset of C6x so the fixed point implementation should be fine.

TI does not offer downloading, support or bug fixes for this >20year old SW. If you need SW assistance I'd recommend going to a 3rd party company like https://vocal.com/speech-coders/g-729-1-codec/ . There might be others as well, this one just came up on a Google search and mention of TI C6x support.
