[FAQ] J722SXH01EVM: Attempt to connect to XDS110 failed (on-board USB debugger)

Part Number: J722SXH01EVM

Tool/software:

I have the following error when trying to connect XDS110 debugger and launch target configuration in CCS:

How do I fix this?

  • This is a known issue with the on-board XDS110 debugger on the J722S EVM. The issue occurs due to CCS updating the XDS firmware that makes the XDS bricked and unusable.

Here are the following steps to fix this issue:

    1. Disconnect all cables from the EVM

    2. Ground Pin 97 (TDO Pin) of the TMD41294NCPDT device on the bottom side of the EVM

This can be done in two ways:

Either by grounding TP37 on the top side of the EVM, which is connected to TDO Pin 97, to any ground pin on the EVM, such as TP18.

Or by connecting directly to Pin 97 of the device, as shown below, to any ground on the device.

      3. While the TDO Pin is grounded, connect the micro-USB cable to the XDS110 on-board debugger.

      4. Keep the pin grounded for about 5 seconds and then remove the connection of TDO Pin to ground.

      5. Browse to the following path: [CCS_INSTALL_DIR]/ccs/ccs_base/common/uscif/xds110 and run ./xdsdfu -e. You should see the following:

If not, you may have to retry steps 1-4.

      6. Now run the following command: ./xdsdfu -c 1 -f firmware_3.0.0.29.bin -r

      7. Then run ./xdsdfu -e and confirm it looks like this:
