I have just swapped batteries on my TI-83.
Now the marker is checkered and I can not add numbers.

I am not aware of a TI provided solution for this Vocoder that is part of any of the DSP libraries. Most of TI provided codecs and voice software is available here:

These CODECS supports only for OMAP35x, C645x, C647x, DM646, DM644x, DM643x (C64x+)
But I'm not sure for C6414,
