TPS54350 or
TPS54424 (fig 34 in datasheet shows the typ performance between RT and CLK mode)
that can take external clock with VIN of 12V, IOUT of 3A.

I'd like to add one more suggestion. In the TPS54424/TPS54824 we have improved the transition from CLK mode to RT mode. Instead of waiting for the switching frequency to decay to the minimum 100 kHz, these parts wait for a fixed time period…

Shouldn't be a problem, there is no output UV or OV shutdown.
The next gen part is the TPS54424 and the equivalent module is the TPSM84424. Both provide up to 4A.
