    As embarrassing as it is, it was exactly the problem. I didn't "see" it, because the launchpad has "SCL/SDA" written on the P2.1 and P2.2 pins, but the demos use the p1.6 and p1.7 pins. After I saw that, and fixing my soldering skills, it works as expected…
