Linux/DRA746: Wayland/Weston and Pipeline/Plane/Overlay usage

Dear Team,

We have below query regarding overlay/pipeline/plane (i.e. 1 GFX and 3 VID) of DRA746. Our s/w is based on SDK 3.02.00.03

1. How can we select/use particular pipeline for specific application while we are using wayland-ivi-extesnion (with ivi-controller.so) and wayland/weston (with ivi-shell and drm backebd )? Is there anyway or configuration or code changes?

For example

HMI on GFX using A15 core

Navigation on VID1 uisng A15 core

VideoPlayer on VID1 uisng A15 core

Browser on VID1 uisng A15 core

Camera1 app on VID2 using M4 core

Camera2 app on VID3 using M4 core

Hi Vikash,

The requirement that you have specified is a very custom requirement.
The support of the SDK is to enable default generic OSS and also enable the mechanisms to exercises the hardware features of Jacinto 6.

Such kind of implementation will have to be implemented on your side.

We do not have a plan to include this feature in the default SDK, atleast at the moment.

Thanks Karthik for your comments. Though requirement seems to be custom, however I think it is necessary for any automotive infotainment platform to be able to achieve performance and utilize the available h/w to its fullest capability.

Could you at least give an overview of How this can be implemented/achieved or what kind of work involved here?

Hi Vikash,

There are several approaches on how this can be achieved and this is an architecture specific adaptation.
At this point of time, TI does not have plans to address this in a generic way either using Weston desktop-shell or the ivi-shell.

Further pointers for you, which you may already be aware of, there are DRM based applications that demonstrate how the video pipelines can be to achieve what you have outlined. These can serve as an example to allow you to explore further on how this can leveraged in your system and integrate it with Wayland.
