Is the SD card default/out-of-box? it sounds like the device is trying to boot from a different interface. If this is not a default SD card image my suggestion is to reload the default.

There is a script found in the SDK_ROOT/bin directory called create-sdcard.sh you can run to re-create the SD card on your host machine.

If you are positive this is a default SD card let me know.

the SD-Card contains the stock image.

i got a second eval kit.
The SD card out of the not working board works on the "new" eval kit.


so i think there is a hardware issue.  any ideas?
i check the EEPROM and I2C functionality tomorrow ...

It could be hardware. If you are already booting off the SD card (which should be happening if you are getting this report from u-boot/spl) I would expect it to continue booting properly.

I suggest you connect to the hardware via JTAG/CCS in this failure condition and looking at the status of the boot pins as these are latched when the device powers up. SYSBOOT[4:0] is latched and stored in CONTROL_STATUS[4:0]. You can find this register at address 0x44E10040. You should the lower 5 bits read as '10111' in binary.

I suspect the ID Memory EEPROM is not properly programmed or corrupted.  The ID Memory EEPROM contents are required for a successful boot of the bootloader.

Please try reprogramming the ID Memory using the following link and then try booting the Linux/Android from the SD card.

I am facing a similar issue with the BeagleBone Black. The stater kit binaries do not work on Beaglebone Black. Could you please help me out?

Shouldn't these values be written to ROM-type locations? What causes it to be overwritten? Is it a bad bootloader? A bad SD card?

I got a similar error:

with that i get this message and the device gets stuck:

The EEPROM is write-protected. You have to short R74 on the PCB in order to program it.

Thank you for pointing out Biser.. but i'm not sure if you have overlooked the subsequent error when i boot with AM335x Starter Kit test Binaries image :

with that the device gets stuck with the following error , without mentioning EEPROM in the error message. It seems to get stuck while copying image from SD card to DDR:

I thought we are talking about Starter Kit. This code will not run on GP EVM, because SK uses DDR3 memory and your EVM is with DDR2.

The GP EVM will not function properly under Linux unless the EEPROM is correctly programmed. EEPROM contents for the GP EVM can be seen here: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_General_Purpose_EVM_HW_User_Guide#I2C_ID_Memory On Rev.1.4 board you need to desolder R72 to program the EEPROM. The utility will probably run if you replace the Starterware bootloader with the one for the GP EVM. I found , R72 on my GP EVM, but its a bit too small for us to desolder it. maybe we donot have the right equipments in our software center.

I tried replacing the bootloader ( although you mentioned desoldering + replacing bootloader)  but that too gets stuck at :

is there any other way to debug this issue / any workaround to get the board up and running?

This is the Linux bootloader, not Starterware.

As for local support, I'm afraid I cannot help. I don't know your location, but you can call your nearest TI representative.
