USB Hardware ID

Hello,

I'm working on a product based off the AM335x EVM SK, which will have USB support. My question is regarding the USB hardware ID.

I presume I must use a custom USB hardware ID for a production product.

Can TI sub license a hardware ID to me, or must I take out a full license?

Hi Richard,

Tha AM335X has a VID/PID value hardcoded into the chip. See section 9.3.1.48 of the AM335X TRM Rev. J.

Thanks Biser,

It seems that when used with Android, the VID/PID is set in software depending on the type of interface being used at that time. E.g.

ADB mode only: VID_18D1 PID_D002

ADB + mass storage mode: VID_18D1 PID_D102

Can I use these VID/PID in a production device? Perhaps this is a question for the Android forum?

This seems to me more like a legal issue. Why don't you contact your nearest TI representative? Here is some information from usb.org: http://www.usb.org/developers/usbfaq#12
