AM335X GPIO Current capability

HI,

We are designing a board with AM335x . I'm using the GPIO2_0 for LED indication . I've connected the LED directly to the pin.

Does the GPIO2_0 have current sink capability for the LED to glow .

Or should i consider some buffer for the same.

What is the Typical current capability of this Pin.

Hi Eby,

Please check the Table in section 5.7 from the AM335X Datasheet Rev. G. Look at parameters Voh and Vol. These are specified at a defined current.

The GPIO is sourcing enough current for the LED in our Board , the LED is glowing

AM335x output does not limit current to the specified value. Your design is required to limit current from AM335x outputs to less than the value defined for the respective output in the data sheet.

When you say the LED is connected directly to the output, it is not clear if you are trying to say the LED wasn't buffered or you saying the LED was connected directly to the output without a current limiting resistor. Normally you would insert a series current limiting resistor with an LED, unless it has one built-in. You can drive the LED from AM335x without a buffer if you limit the current to less than the specified output.
