Am335x MII mode with phy DP83848KSQ

Hi

We are design custom am335x board. We are using DP83848KSQ phy with MII mode.

I have some questions ?

1) We are need phy-reset but it has no property in dts file. Can i add

phy_reset: gpio-reset {

compatible = "gpio-reset";

reset-gpios = <&gpio5 0 GPIO_ACTIVE_LOW>;

reset-delay-us = <10000>;

initially-in-reset;

#reset-cells = <0>;

};

2) We are need DP83848KSQ driver or

phy_sel: cpsw-phy-sel@44e10650 {
                                compatible = "ti,am3352-cpsw-phy-sel";
                                reg= <0x44e10650 0x4>;
                                reg-names = "gmii-sel";
                        };

it is correct for our board .

Hi,

I will forward this to the SW team. I think that there is a DP83848 driver in the SDK, but they will give you more details.

Hi Biser,

I have checked DP83848 driver is not found in linux kernel . I have using linux kernel version 3.14.

Hi Tejas,

Don't change the DTS files for your board.

You should start by running make menuconfig, go to Device Drivers -> Network Device Support -> PHY device support and infrastructure; use the arrow keys to select Drivers for National Semiconductor PHYs and press "y" in order to built the natsemi phy driver in your kernel image.

Another option is to add CONFIG_NATSEMI=y & CONFIG_NET_VENDOR_NATSEMI=y in your defconfig file and make the kernel image.

I'm not a SW expert, but it's there in previous SDK versions. Have you checked under National Semiconductor? e2e.ti.com/.../432016

How to it work ? I have some query ? In schematic gives one phy reset to DP83848 . it is required ?

Hi Yordan,
I have checked drivers/net/phy/national.c in these file only support is DP83865 chip not for DP83848.

Can i add here DP83868 support ?

Hi Tejas,

This is a generic driver, it should do a basic initialization of the phy.
Can you try adding the above configurations to your defconfig (or menuconfig) and see if kernel will recognize your phy?
