Hi,

I am using custom am3356 board with MMC1 controller and 32GB class 10 card. While booting MLO i am getting following error.

spl: mmc init failed: err - -17

### ERROR ### Please RESET the board ###

Please help us on this.

Hi,

Is their any special or extra code addition is required while MLO and U-Boot is booting from SD card which is connected on mmc1 controller.

For your reference i have attached schematic portion and we have checked that pin muxing is proper in mux.c file.

Check whether your SD0_CD signal doesn't change state during initialization.

Hi Biser,

Ok, we will check that.

It seems that MLO is finding u-boot from mmc0.

How can i make sure that MLO finds u-boot in mmc1 or what are the changes required to boot u-boot from mmc1.

Also i have cross verified that i did pin muxing for mmc1 and try to boot it from a board which have mmc0 controller then also it gets boot. So my doubt is that in the case of mmc1 or mmc0 with pin muxing of mmc1 u-boot tries to boot from mmc0 by default.

I think some where I need changes to initialize and load u-boot.img from MMC1.

Please suggest changes.

Hi Biser,

We have checked that SD0_CD works properly as well as we have probed cmd, clk and data at processor end and also after pin muxing. It looks ok.

Hi Kemal,

We have checked DDR timings and software leveling.

And its working fine, because we have booted from USB boot mode and we booted till filesystem without any issue.

We checked on both frequency (303 MHz and 400 MHz).

Hi,

Can you share the body of cpu_mmc_init() function located in arch/arm/cpu/armv7/am33xx/board.c ?

Your error comes from common/spl/spl_mmc.c -> spl_mmc_load_image(), which calls the mmc_init() function located in drivers/mmc/mmc.c. What are your sysboot settings?

Can you add #define DEBUG in both drivers (common/spl/spl_mmc.c & drivers/mmc/mmc.c) in order to enable all debug messages in them? Can you share the output afterwords?

Also could you enable the CONFIG_SHOW_BOOT_PROGRESS § show_boot_progress() to try and get some additional information about your error (see README)?

Hi Kemal,

We have checked another thing, we have connected MMC0 interface to SD Card through Multiplexer.

And same images compiled for MMC1 booted easily without any issue till filesystem.

Our u-boot version is "u-boot-2014.07-g7e537bf".

Hi,

We got the issue resolved. Actually the problem was our pin muxing was over written by lcd pin muxing for mmc 1. Later on We commented out lcd pin muxing as there is no use of it in our case.
