AM5728: Task synchronization across cores

Hi,

Is there an unique clock / tick system timer available on all cores A15 (Linux), C66x (RtoS), M4's which can give let's say milliseconds / microseconds since the system has start, or something similar, reporting same time on all cores.

Hi Alexander,

Could the hardware RTC be used for your purposes? Or you could write a firmware for the cortex-M4 that manages one of the other GP Timer modules.

There is not a timer started to capture ticks to align all the cores. The cores boot asynchronously, a timer can started after boot up that all the processors can see per the suggestion from Ahmad.

There is very basic example that is not officially supported that we have on how to enable timer 14 during the linux boot. After the A15 boot completes a user level program would have to control it. There is not an API or any formal documentation on how to apply the timer across the cores, the example simply turns on the clock that the timer uses.

To use this example Linux device tree modifications, a modifiction to the user level tool devmem2 is needed to demonstrate the timer is working. Would this example help you?

The what I actually need is 1/4000 seconds precision for RTC accessible from all cores. Yeah, probably GP Timer can solve problem.
