AM3352: eMMC boot from MMC0 fails

Hello Champs,

Customer connected 4GB emmc (compatible to 4.5.1) to mmc0 and connected SD card to MMC1. The boot procedure is MMC1->MMC0.

1. Board can boot from SD card and enter Uboot, he can use mmc command to read the EMMC correctly.

2. EMMC Linux partition: Partition1 FAT32: MLO, uboot.img, uboot.env;
Partition2 EXT4: rootfs.

3. Remove sd card, re-power the board and there is no output from serial port, the voltage has no change.

Uboot uses am335x_evm_defconfig.

Hi Shine,

The AM335x TRM Rev. P states in section 26.1.8.5.2:

"MMC0 supports booting from the MMC/SD card cage and also supports booting from eMMC/eSD/managed NAND memory devices with less than 4GB capacity."

Differences in MMC initialization are explained in section 26.1.8.5.4.

thank you for reply 。

The AM335x TRM mentioned that the restriction is a result of many emmc devices not being compliant with the emmc v4.41 specification .

But the datasheet of my emmc (MTFC16GAKAECN-4M) declared the emmc compliant v4.41 specification.

so, i got confused: can 4G emmc (v4.41) supports booting when it connected to mmc0

Can you connect with JTAG and display the tracing vectors? They are described in Chapter 26 and will show where the boot ROM failed to boot.

I have the same problem like shine,I connect the eMMC 16G (compatible to 4.4.1)on MMC0,but processor is AM4379,The TRM not mention the capacity of eMMC,u-boot can use mmc command to read and write the EMMC correctly,I reference the processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Linux_Core_U-Boot_User's_Guide in < Using SD, eMMC or USB storage> like this:
&uuidgen
got first uuid
&uuidgen
got sencond uuid

U-Boot # printenv partitions
uuid_disk=${uuid_gpt_disk};name=rootfs,start=2MiB,size=-,uuid=${uuid_gpt_rootfs}
U-Boot # setenv uuid_gpt_disk ...first uuid...
U-Boot # setenv uuid_gpt_rootfs ...second uuid...
U-Boot # gpt write mmc 1 ${partitions}
gpt write sucess,but what should I do next ?

Can you boot to Linux from SD or USB and format the partitions on the eMMC?
