TAS2552: Can the TAS2552 use more than 5W in a 4ohm load?

Part Number: TAS2552
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM48511,

Hi TI team,

My customer will design Mono 5W speaker. I would like to recommend the LM48511 or TAS2552.

But in case of LM48511, I saw an E2E answer saying that 5W output is impossible.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/audio-group/audio/f/audio-forum/682274/lm48511-gain-setting-question-for-4ohm-5w-output?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=lm48511%205w#

In case of TAS2552, speaker load range is 6~8ohm in datasheet.

Can the TAS2552 use more than 5W in a 4ohm load?

Please check it.

Thanks.

  • Hi Kim,

TAS2552 can output up to about 6W into 4ohm load. However in order to use 4ohm load the IVsense feature must be disabled.
Data sheet minimum spec for the load is based on the IVsense, at lower loads than 6ohm the IVsense must be disabled to prevent damage, although Class-D driver is still functional for 4ohm loads.
