TAS2559EVM: PPC3 Hardware Check Fails - Unable to detect audio sound card

Part Number: TAS2559EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2559

I have been testing several speakers over the past couple of days evaluating them and the audio card for my application. Everything was functioning normally until the last speaker I tried. I finished the characteriziation and began playing a test audio file. The audio file played on the test speaker for a brief moment and then cut out. My computer and the PPC3 Software no longer recognize the speaker, just the evaluation board. Is my audio sound card broken?

  • Hello,

I have a few questions for you regarding this:

    • How is the EVM showing up in the computer's device manager?
    • If you disconnect the EVM and start the characterization over, does the issue persist?
    • Are you still able to control the TAS2559 through I2C writes or other areas of the GUI?

    Best Regards,

    Justin Beigel

  • Justin,

See photo here for how the EVM appears in the device manager.

The issue does persist even if I disconnect the EVM, cycle the power and restart my computer.

I can still connect to the EVM through PurePath, but just can't connect to the audio sound card.

    Thanks

  • Hello,

Thank you for the additional information. I am looking into this more with my team and we should have feedback for you shortly.

  • Hello,

Sorry for the delay here. What IOVDD voltage are you using?

If you try to do playback from ROM mode or smart amp mode, does the speaker play sound? Try testing this with and without the SALB2 board connected.

If none of that gets you any audio, try configuring the EVM with a simple I2C script to enable the speaker output and read the error flags to see if any occur while trying to play audio.

Let me know if any of this solves the issue or if we need to do more debugging.

    Best Regards,

    Justin Beigel

  • Hello,

Haven't heard from you in a while so I am closing this thread for now. Hope my previous reply was enough to solve your issue but feel free to respond here or open a new thread if you are still having issues.
