Hi,

I'm researching on how to use this chip: TLV320AIC3120. This will require a microcontroller to interface to get and send audio data correct via I2S? Do we have any reference design for this?

That is correct - you would need to have a processor or Audio controller to communicate with the TLV320AIC3120, you can review our evaluation module schematics as a starting point for your design. The document is located here:
