TPA3255: Linear power supply design for TPA3255

Hi Mark,

TPA3255 is a high power devices that could output hundreds of Watt. Linear power supply may be not able to deliver that much power. SMPS are more widely used.

You will only need 1 power supply, as long as the power supply has enough power capability.

Are you using AC power to generate the 51V DC? Or using a booster to step up a DC voltage to 51V?

Thanks so much for your response!  I'm not a power supply designer by any means, so if an alternative topology is recommended then I'll certainly explore it.  We are just concerned about noise being introduced into the audio system.

We would be using our standard GPO's here in Australia (240V AC) to power the equipment.

Would be great to hear how you recommend I move forward with a design.  Thanks again!

I would suggest you go to the power forum and ask the guys there. 

TPA3255 is closed loop class-d amp that has good PSRR that could minimize the impact from power line noise.

BTW, may I ask the audio power in total? It will be the power supply design target.

OK. 

So one amplifier will be driving a 2-way loudspeaker in BTL mode.  The 2-way loudspeaker has tweeter and a woofer.  The tweeter's nominal impedance is 8-ohm and it's power handling is 80W with 1 kW power transient.  The woofer has a nominal impedance of 4-ohm with a power rating of 50W and short term requirements of 200W.

Then the other amplifier in PBTL mode will be driving the sub-woofer. which has a nominal impedance of 8-ohm and has power rating of 400W with short term requirements of up to 1.5 kHz.

The final system is to consist of 2 x 2-way loudspeakers and a single sub-woofer.
