TAS5825M: volume controls

Part Number: TAS5825M

The TAS5825M seems to have two volume controls:

1. DIG_VOL register at address 4Ch (seems to correspond to DAC Gain in PPC3)

2. CH-X Volume in DSP (address varies depending on the process flow)

How do these relate to one another?

Where in the signal path do they exist? The documentation for the signal flows show a volume block but I would guess that DIG_VOL is elsewhere? Is it before the DSP? After the DSP?

When would you use one over the other?

What headroom issues potentially exist? For example, if the incoming I2S signal is peaking at 0dBFs and you turn up DIG_VOL above 0dB will it clip? What about if you turn up the DSP volume above 0dB?

How much headroom does the DSP have in general for processing? How can you be sure to avoid digital clipping in the processing?
