PCM3060: DAC load drive capability

Part Number: PCM3060

Hi,

The customer connects an inverting amplifier to the DAC output.
They want to know the load drive capability as they connect a resistor to the input of the OPAMP.

/OPAMP configuration is below.

Inverter amplifier, amplitude = 4V (0.5-4.5V), Gain = 2, Single end input

What is the load that the DAC output can be used without distortion?
In the simulation, the same 10k as the EVM is connected, so it is about 0.4mA.
Is this safe enough? When 4.7k is connected, it becomes 0.85mA. Is this a problem?

Best regards,

Hiroshi

  • Hey Hiroshi,

To determine if the DAC would be able to drive a certain load configure the Power Dissipation specs given by the datasheet here:

It depends on what settings you have but if you are trying to drive .4mA through 10k ohms that would be about a power of 1.6mW which is nowhere near the limits of the device.

    Best,

    Carson
