TAS2563: Configuration file generated by PPC3 is not working with PDM driver

Part Number: TAS2563

Hello,

we are using the PDM driver from https://git.ti.com/cgit/tas256xsw-android/tas2563-android-driver/tree/?h=PDM under Linux 5.4.47.

We need the SmartAmp functions as well as capture from stereo PDM microphones and echo reference. Our design uses the BGA version of TAS2563.

With the included tas2563_ringPDM.bin we have correct recording and playback.

When generating a tuning mode firmware with PurePath Console 3.2.1 and the TAS2563QFN EVM 3.0.0 app the device is not playing back any audio and the capture stream is also empty.

If we generate the firmware for ROM mode, playback is possible (as well as I/V sense capturing). We checked all relevant registers and there was no obvious difference. We tried different configurations in tuning mode (i.e. SmartAmp only, without PDM) - there is also no function in this case.

With the TAS2563 EVM 3.0.2 app we were able to generate a working tuning mode firmware but without PDM capture (not supported in this app).

Is the .bin file generated by the TAS2563QFN EVM 3.0.0 App only fitting to the QFN Device?

How can we generate a working firmware for tuning mode with PDM microphone capture?

How was the supplied tas2563_ringPDM.bin included in the driver generated? Can we get the corresponding .ppc3 file from this project?

Thank you and regards ...

  • Hi Volker,

As you have noticed, QFN and DSBGA configurations are not compatible, this is basically due to some difference in the digital core on each of the devices.
I understand you can't configure the device for PDM recording using DSBGA version of the software, but you can do it with QFN version.

Let me share an offline installer you can download directly from a link, this one will have the PDM configuration controls. Let me get back to you shortly.

  • oh, i understand! But does that mean that DSBGA will be the wrong choice for future? Should we better change to QFN Type?

  • Hi Volker,

I'm reaching out to you on direct message to share further details. Please follow up in there.
