TPA6130A2: Output Power 138mW

Part Number: TPA6130A2

Hi Ivan Salazar

I got to know that output power is 138mW @ 5Vdd on each channel through your reply.

But I have a question.

If I design circuit as below(single line input), what is the possible maximum power of this circuit at each channel, a half of 138mW ?

thanks for your support.

BR,

Robert Sim

  • Hi Robert,

As long as you can get the same amount of voltage to the single-ended input, you should get the same output power.

To better explain this let me get to how differential and single-ended work:

    • For differential inputs, you get the signal from IN+ and subtract what you get on IN-, the advantage of this is that if you have the same exact signal, but reversed phase (inverted), the result of subtracting will be double of the voltage; eg. if you have 1V signal on IN+ and the same inverted signal on IN-, by subtraction you will get Output = IN+ - IN- = 1V - (-1V) = 2V
    • For single-ended inputs, you only have one of the signals, either IN+ or IN-, and result of subtraction is not changing from the input signal itself. However if you can get, let's say, 2V input signal it would be the same as having 1V differential signal
    • Now, regardless if you're using differential or single-ended, the output will be the signal you have at the input after applying the gain of the amplifier. So if you have a smaller signal you can still increase the gain (if haven't reached the max) to get higher output signal, although this is amplifying the signal itself and the noise, this is the reason why you usually use higher input signals and reduce the gain to avoid amplifying the noise floor too much.

Hopefully this helps with your question, if need further support please let me know.
