TLV320AIC3120: some questions

Part Number: TLV320AIC3120

Dear TI team

Please refer to the below my questions.

(1) How to handle SPKVDD pin in case of unusing Speaker ?

(2) Do I have to matching voltage level I2C and IOVDD ?

Best Regards,

  • Hello,

    1. SPKVDD/SPKVSS is required for class-D operation for the speaker outputs. SPKVDD voltage levels can be tied to AVDD and must not be less than the AVDD voltage level.
      1. So if speaker operation is not desired, Page 1 / Register 32 register settings can be kept at the default state of Class-D power down to ensure minimum current drawn from the SPKVDD/SPKVSS power-rail.
    2. I2C specifications are provided for DVDD voltage level of 1.8V. IOVDD voltage level can be 3.3V.

  • Hello ,

--> I have to connect certain voltage has more than AVDD whether using speaker or not. right ? there is no speaker what I'm gonna design.

--> you mean IOVDD can be connected to I2C pull up voltage ?

  • Hello,

    1. Yes, please connect SPKVDD >= AVDD voltage irrespective of speaker connection.

    2. IOVDD is the interface supply. So, yes I2C voltage level should match IOVDD levels and I2C pull ups for SDA, SCL can be connected to IOVDD.

    Hope this resolves your query!

  • Hello ,

Thank you for reply. I have one question about power on sequence.

As I know, the power sequence is like below by datasheet.

    (1) SPKVDD -> IOVDD  -> DVDD (1.8V) -> AVDD and HPVDD

But , there is no power on sequence in your EV board circuits. 3.3V and 1.8V is turned on same time by 5V.

And, IOVDD and AVDD and HPVDD is connected to same LDO , it is different in your datasheet.

    Which is the correct ?

If do i have to follow datasheet sequence, what is the time interval between voltages ?

    Best regards,

  • Hello,

It is always the best practice to follow the power up sequence provided in the datasheet specifically when supplies generated have varying ramp times and setting times. If all power supplies generated have already reached their steady state and verified to be OK, you can also enable these supplies together. The min/ max delta between the power supply intervals has been not provided in the datasheet.

So, you can follow the power supply generation method provided in the EV board since it has been tested and verified for functionality.
