TPA3255: design tradeoffs between either a 4 or 8 ohm load

Part Number: TPA3255

Hello,

I am using the TPA3255 class D power amp in a design that will need to drive either a 4 or 8 ohm load (mostly real impedance) with 60-80kHz waveforms. I have increased the TPA3255's PWM modulation frequency to 600kHz for my design. I need to make a decision between choosing either a 4 or 8 ohm load for my application. My design implements a BTL common mode LC filter network. I understand that the load value (4 or 8 ohms) will impact the L and C values required in order to have the filter's 3dB point be appropriate given my application's desired bandwidth. I also understand that the amp will have higher output currents for the same power output into a 4 ohm v.s. an 8 ohm load. However are there other design trade offs that I should be aware of when deciding between selecting either a 4 or 8 ohm load for the TPA3255?

Thank you

Sean
