Hi,

I am looking for a Speaker Amplifier with the specifications below.

Architecture : Class-D

- Speaker Channels(output) : 1 channels(Mono),

- Output Power : 5W

Actually our client required support for both 5W and 10W speaker support.

Is there any overhead required while selecting Class D amplifier for speaker ?

I mean if I want to use 5W speaker then do I need to select 5W amplifier or I need to provide 50% overhead and select 7W amplifier ?

As well as can I connect 5W amplifier with 10W speaker ?

Are you looking for analog or digital input?

Usually the speaker is rated for higher power than the amplifier. If the amplifier pushes more power than the speaker is rated for it can be damaged. TI features Speaker Protection algorithms in the SmartAmps such as TAS2563. With this feature you can push more power to the speaker bringing it closet to its maximum capabilities while still keeping it safe from damage.
