TPA3255: Using amplifier in PBTL-mode

Part Number: TPA3255

Hi. I bought this amplifier at Aliexpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003610609073.html), but i came with no schematics. Does anyone know how i should connect the wires from my one loudspeaker to the amplifier to take advantage of the PBTL-mode? I want 600w+600w in mono. Thanks in advanced! Best Regards Mathias

  • Hi Mathias

        It's not TI's products.

By reading the description in your link, there are two 3255 in this product, but only have one input port and two output port. So I think they already connected in PBTL mode. If you can't understand the Chinese description in the pictures, I translate them for you.

  • Thanks, but the Chinese description in the pictures just describes that there is left and a right channel (one speaker connected to each channel). My question is how I connect one speaker using mono (in bridged mode). Could it be the negative one from the left channel and the positive one on the right channel? (I’m afraid I’ll damage it if I play around with the connections)

  • Hi Mathias

Do you mean you want to use two 3255 together to give one speaker with 600W power? Firstly, our device can't work in this way. Secondly, the current would be too large for both 3255, the device can't bear it.

  • Thanks for taking the time to answer me:-) Yes, Iwant to max out the watts on one loudspaker (bridged mono). The amplifier is two 3255 paired, and stated to support BTL (PBTL), for me that means that "the two channels of a stereo amplifier are fed the same monaural audio signal, with one channel's electrical polarity reversed. A loudspeaker is connected between the two amplifier outputs, bridging the output terminals." But you are saying that this is impossible, and that the product cannot deliver as promised?

  • Hi Mathias

Our devices are not designed for parallel use, we can't guarantee the results. Maybe not break down easily, but the music effect may not be good. Better check with the seller.

  • Thanks! My reason for reaching out in this forum is because I have not been able to get in contact with the seller/manufacturer. I’m not that afraid that the use is not guaranteed by TI. I’m willing to gamble a little bit to get my bridged mono. I was hoping to get some advice on how to connect the one loudspeaker. Back in the days, when playing with car amplifiers and using bridged mono, I often connected the (+)cable on the left channel to (+) and the (-)cable on the right channel to (-). Then connecting a short cable from left channel (-) to right channel (+). Do you, or anyone else, have some educated advice on how the manufacturer could have planned that this should be done on this amplifier?

  • Hi Mathias

According to your descriptions, you want to connect them in series. I think it's better to connect in parallels. Connect two channel + together and two channel - together. If your speaker's resistance is around 2Ohm, maybe you can get 1.2KW output power.

  • Thanks! I'll try that outThumbsup
