TAS2563: Capping the Amplifier Output Level with AMP_LEVEL Setting

Part Number: TAS2563

Re: e2e.ti.com/.../tas2563-question-of-tas2563-dvc_pcm-register

Hi Ivan,

Following up on a previous discussion about using the limiter to cap the amplifier output, should we set AMP_LEVEL in Register 0x03 to a lower value?
Will reducing the AMP_LEVEL setting affect the digital processing path?  Can it potentially reduce quantization noise?
It's currently set to the 0x10 default value for 16.0 dBV (8.92 Vpk).
Is there a way to do it in PPC3 other than with a manual I2C write?

Thanks, O.R.

  • Hi Oren,

Changing AMP_LEVEL would affect the digital processing as you mentioned. In SmartAmp this setting should not be modified as it is the channel gain considered for speaker protection algorithm.

If you need to limit the output from the amplifier you may use the limiter from "Limiter and Brown-Out Protection" within Device Control Panel, this is also referred in the documentation as "Speaker Guard":
