TAS2780: Difference between Brownout prevention and UVLO

Part Number: TAS2780

Hi team,

TAS2780 have both Brownout prevention and UVLO but I'm not clear the difference.

My understanding is that both monitor input voltages and UVLO works to reset the device if VBAT1S reachs to 2V.
On the other hand, BOP doesn't reset the device but mitigate brownout events, right?

I would like you to explain clear differences.

Best regards,
koyo

  • Hi Koyo-san,

I am looking into this UVLO vs BOP question and would be providing you input later today.

  • Hi Koyo-san,

You are correct that UVLO would keep the device in reset unlike brownout protection (BOP). In case of BOP, device would attenuate output signal depending on the register configurations when supply voltage is ramping down. This helps to avoid any system brownout event when system battery is discharging.

Below example snapshot from a BOP test shows how TAS2780 OUTP, OUTN and OUT signals would look like when different levels of BOP is configured using TAS2780 BOP registers.

Hope this helps to clarify your UVLO vs BOP question.

    Regards,

    Atiq
