TLV320AIC3106: TLV320AIC3106 vs TLV320AIC33

Part Number: TLV320AIC3106
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC33,

Hi,

We are looking to load the TLV320AIC33 codec on a board in place of the TLV320AIC3106 which we currently use.

The reduced functionality of the TLV320AIC33 looks like it is acceptable for our usage scenarios however we have two questions.

1) AGC noise gate hysteresis control / level encodings differ between devices

The TLV320AIC3106 datasheet (July 2021) describes bits D7-D6 of registers 28 and 31 as being encoded such that %00 corresponds to a level of 1 dB, and %11 corresponds to hysteresis being disabled.

The TLV320AIC33 datasheet (December 2008) describes bits D7-D6 of the same registers being encoded such that %00 corresponds to hysteresis being disabled, and %01 corresponds to a level of 1 dB.

Could you confirm whether these differences are in fact correct (given all other register encodings appear to be consistent).

2) I2C Bus Error Detector support in TLV320AIC33

TLV320AIC3106 states that it supports I2C bus error detection and correction, and which is enabled by default but can be disabled. The TLV320AIC33 datasheet has no such description nor register definition. Is it possible to confirm whether the TLV320AIC33 codec a) doesn't support this function, or b) supports it but doesn't allow it to be disabled.

Thanks in advance.

Paul
