TPA2014D1EVM: Clarity issue with the module

Part Number: TPA2014D1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA2014D1

Objective: We want speaker mode to be available in our hardware

We are taking a differential Input from SIM800C which is a GSM module and has SPK+ and SPK- Pins

we are feeding it directly to the EVM and using 1W speaker for output, loudness is good, voice is coming out well but the issue is the clarity, it distorts the voice significantly and we are unable to understand what the other party is speaking on the phone.

Can you suggest on how we can address the issue of clarity in this ?

Thanks,

Ashish

  • Hi Ashish,

Let me add a few questions about your application:

    • Is there any capture of the audio you can share to better understand how the distortion is like?
    • Is SPK+/SPK- signal from GSM module analog or PWM-like signal? Perhaps you need some low-pass filter between GSM module and amplifier input? Please notice that Class-D amplifiers, like TPA2014D1 can take out-of-band noise back to audible range if the input signal comes from an unfiltered DAC.
    • Perhaps the signal is clipping either at the input or at the output of the amplifier, you can use a scope to inspect the amplitude of the input signal from GSM module and make sure it is within the input common mode range for TPA2014D1.
    • Regarding clipping at the output, you can also use a scope to check if the signal at the output is limited by the power supply rails.
