TAS2563: Pilot Tone Amplitude and Presence

Part Number: TAS2563

Hi Ivan,

A high amplitude 60 Hz component appears on the amplifier output when, for example, playing a - 20 dBFS sine wave with a volume setting that causes the output to exceed a certain threshold.  When sweeping frequency the 60 Hz tone appears when going past ~ 1.5 kHz.  The spec. mentions a "60 Hz -40 dB pilot tone" in a few places in Table 6.5 Electrical Characteristics (and nowhere else) but the amplitude I measured is only about -12 dB down, see screenshot below from the TI EVB output with the amplifier operating in Smart Amp mode:

Please advise about what affects the pilot tone amplitude and presence and whether it should exceed -40 dB.

Thanks, O.R.
