TAS6424E-Q1: Output inductor current

Part Number: TAS6424E-Q1

Hi,

In our application, the maximum output is 25W*4ch (load:4Ω). The inductor saturation current should be >3.5A, and what about the inductor temperature rise current ? How to calculate it ?

  • Hello Ying,

The inductor properties of saturation current and temperature rise should be in the datasheet for the inductor.  Do not look at the table, but look at the graph for both specifications.  This should be readily available in the datasheet.

  • Yes, I could find both the saturation and temperature rise current specification from the graph. And I also should evaluate whether the spec can meet the application when the maximum power(25W for each 4Ω channel) output from AMP.

In my opinion, the peak current  flow through the inductor should be SQRT(25/4)*1.414=3.5A, so the inductor saturation current spec should be>3.5A. The RMS current flow through the inductor should be SQRT(25/4)=2.5A. So the temperature rise current spec should be >2.5A. Is that correct?

  • Ying,

    You are correct.
