PCM2704EVM-U: EVM Troubleshooting

Part Number: PCM2704EVM-U

Hello E2E Experts,

Good day.

I'm re-attempting to use the PMC2704 that I have and can't find the text explaining the functions for SW1 - 3, can you assist me?
Yes, I have the board
There are three switches on the board if the board printing is in the proper orientation, then the three switches, SW1, SW2, and SW3 are at the upper right side of the board.
Update:
The unit has chosen to work, for a while anyway. But it does suddenly quit after some period, and it differs. I've been listening to it this mornin' now for about a half hour. So, we'll see what occurs in time. I bought this to put into a 5.1 surround sound system that I've designed and have built (just need to build the cabinet and buy two ten-inch drivers and assemble it all).
Spoke too soon. it just quit on me again. About 35 minutes into the day. Haven't changed or altered a thing!
The unit's bus powered at this time.
My cellphones'' camera has quit working, and I'll have to replace it. But it's over ten years old. Everything else about it still works. So, I can't provide a photo.
The unit works for a few seconds to a minute, then suddenly stops, intermittently.

The setup is, My HP Compaq dc7000, running Windows 7 Pro, eight gig of RAM, the PCM 2704's connected via the USB directly to the back of the computers' USB output ports on the back of the computer. And currently have my headphone attached to the output terminal. And will be powered by the USB bus as well when I install it (or a replacement) into my 5.1 surround sound system that I bought this to go into.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
CSC
  • Hello,  I connected my EVM as you described :  EVM connected to my laptop's  USB and headphone connected to the output jack on the EVM .  I have not experienced any issue. I  have windows 11 on my computer ,  Also the SW1-3 are in  default position. The JP10, JP11 and JP9 are all on default ( BUS) position.

The fact that your EVM worked fine for a while and then stopped working tells us the set up should be correct and connections are ok.

Have you tried it with a different PC with  a different Windows? One thing you can do is to see when it disconnects , what your speaker icon reads. When EVM is connected to the PC  it should read (Speaker: USB AUDIO DAC).

  • Hello Arash,

    Good day.

It had just so happed that when I was reading the message from you this mornin' the device was not playing any sounds, and so I placed the mouse over the speaker icon in the control panel, and the pop-up stated, "No Audio Output Device is installed". So, I rebooted, and the sound card saw and responded to the sound card and played back, as it should, the beeps, and sounds that it was supposed to play.

As I said in the past, it's not at the same distance of time between these failures.

  • Hello,

Thanks for the update. I believe the issue is not with the EVM or your jumper settings and has more to do  with  your PC drivers. Probably simplest solution would be using a different PC with different windows. I close this post as I think no further action from my side is needed.
