CC85XXDK Configurator Questions

Hi,

I am developing a bi-directional comms system, basically using 1 master and 3 slaves, and the AIC3101 or similar.

In trying to obtain an alpha version of FW1.2, TI have kindly given access to FW1.1.9, which I assume is the latest version available at the moment - it appears to be only part way towards fully bi-directional and with no advanced power management control.

Could I ask the following questions:-

  1. The example configuration is 2 masters and one slave, with one master (call it M1) providing stereo line input, and the other, M2, providing stereo mic inputs.   Is it intended that this is one example, which can work in practice?  If so, how are the signals mixed at the Slave end?
  2. Or, is this example actually two individual configurations as seen in my attached diagram?
  3. Why is there only one mono channel (L) for the slave input (and therefore the Master output?  I cannot add another channel in the Configurator.
  4. Why has M1 (line inputs) have the L and R ADC 'unpowered' in the Audio Device Customization panel?
  5. Why do M1, M2 and S have the DAC L1 and R1 channels routed to HPLOUT, AND in a 'muted' and 'powered down' state?
  6. The logical channels described in Section 2.3 of the CC85XX Family Guide appear not to be reflected in FW1.1.9.  I thought the idea was to have these logical channels the same names for several devices (M and S's) so that they knew where to be directed from one producer to different consumers.  As it is, the Configurator is confusing in the use of the 'Master to Slave' and 'Slave to Master' sections of the Audio Streaming section, because the 'logical channels' concept is not transparent nor obvious.  For example, the Configurator shows that Front R and L (as input to M1), and the uses Slave to Master as mic 0, which is correct but confusing.
  7. I have tried to configure the bi-directional example as M1 (L) to Tx to S (L); and M2 (R) to Tx to S (R), but cannot without red crosses.
  8. What we want to achieve is 1 master (M) and 3 slaves (S1, S2, S3), with S1 (L) to Tx(& Rx) to M (L); S2 (R) to Tx (& Rx) to M (R); and S3 (L) to Tx (& Rx) to M (L).  Is this possible?
  9. In autonomous mode, does Configurator change the code (on Reset) in the Audio Device Customization section if other aspects of the Configurator are changed.
  10. How can I get hold of FW1.2 alpha.

Many thanks,

Geoff Pickford

  • Hello to TI again,

Please ignore Questions 4 and 5 above, as I know realise that the .ppwprj file points to various .ppcfg files.  These .ppcfg files call on devcfg.dtd for formatting requirements, and when 'Audio Device Customisation' is enabled, any changes made in the Configurator panels (eg volume etc) are reflected in the .ppcfg files after saving them.  These saved files are then used next time Configurator starts.  However, one question remains - QUESTION 1 - what file governs the various 'actions' available in the .ppcfg files such as 'Active to Low-Power', 'Inactive to Low-Power' etc.  I presume this is part of the powering up and down sequence, but I cannot find how they are controlled, or how they can be changed.

Since writing the above Post (06-27-2011), I have conducted several basic tests using FW1.1.9.

When using the 'preloaded demo', the audio and RF performance appears to be flawless from a subjective point of view.

However, when using the 'bi-directional demo', (with the 'line-input' master), there is loud, medium frequency noise on the S output phones, when no signal is present on the M input.  Whilst not measured yet, the noise appears to be typical of a 2.5 ms period, RF modulated signal breaking through to the audio path.  When you touch the ground of the RCA output sockets on the S board (and some other areas), this noise is attenuated and largely replaced by loud 50 and 100 Hz hum.  QUESTION 2 - Any ideas what is happening in both cases?

Whilst changing the Input Volume Fixed Offset of the Configurator works for the M, and the Output Volume Fixed Offset of the Configurator works for the S, the User Interface buttons on the S board do not work.  QUESTION 3 - These buttons work for the 'preloaded demo', so any ideas of the problem?

It may be necessary for me to wait for FW1.2, which presumably has ironed out the above bugs.

The 'Start Page Panel' of the Configurator, refers to reader to the E2E forum 'to view the Configurator tutorial (PDF document)' and 'video-based demonstrations of the Configurator...'  I have searched high and low for the PDF document and videos, and cannot find them.  They would be quite useful.  QUESTION 4 - Can you please direct me to them?

    Kind Regards,

    Geoff Pickford

  • Hi Geoff,

This will be fixed in the relesed version. Please note that pre-releaed, demo SW/FW are under typically under NDA.  So please be careful of what you post :-)

About the configurator video, I know it was made but hade som quality issues :-). So  I am not sure it ever been posted. I will check!

    Cheers,

  • Hi Per H,

Good to know the bug fixing and the video.

Further, if I had have entered into a NDA agreement, I would not have made any mention to anyone or the forum.

I have however, only signed a "Alpha Software Waiver" which warns the customer against the possibility of 'mild to severe problems'.  I will now wait for FW1.2.

    Many thanks,

    Geoff Pickford
