TAS2764EVM: low audible volume when playing through the PC

Part Number: TAS2764EVM

Both customer and I are experiencing low volume when testing the TAS2764EVM via the USB connection. Despite our attention to following the recommendations of the user's guide, the power we get through the 4Ω speaker is small. When using the Audacity software to test tones, I do hear good volume at a variety of frequencies.

The system is connected to 5V, with a 4-Ω speaker. The speaker signal in the scope reaches the 5V as expected. I believe the limitation in power is the result of the modulation, not a hardware issue. No modifications were made to the EVM anyway.

Is there any setting on either computer or PPC3 that we could be missing?

Thank you!

  • Hi Lenio,

Let's check a few things that could be related:

    • Please share the PPC3 file of the configuration you're using. Or list the steps you follow if doing any changes on PPC3.
    • Make sure that the Windows output volume is not reduced
    • I assume you're intention is to use only 1 of the channels on the EVM, correct? Did you removed the jumpers associated to the unused channel? (PVDD, VBAT1S, AVDD and IOVDD)
    • You mentioned Audacity volume seems OK, what are you playing when audio is reduced? media player or website audio?

We may follow up over email to setup a Webex call if needed, just let me know.

  • HI Lenio,

Just coming back to close the thread on e2e:

The problem is related to BOP configuration, even though PPC3 GUI suggests that this feature is disabled, it is in fact not disabled in the device configuration.
The workaround for now is to use PPC3 to enable BOP, set the Threshold of each individual level to the minimum, then disable each level and the whole BOP block and re-enable the device.
This issue has been reported to our SW development team and should be fixed in a later update.

Thanks and let us know if customer face any problems or have any further questions.

    Best regards,
