TPA3251: DSP and AMP

Part Number: TPA3251
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA788, TAS3251

Hi,

Good Day. I have a customer who is working with TPA3251 and DRA788. Please see below his query for your reference. Thank you very much.

1. I'm going to make an audio amplifier that can run DSP with a power supply.
2. This is a list of the main parts I think.
DSP: DRA788 , AMP: TPA3251.
I'm going to make a DSP amp for speakers that can be used by connecting these two.
The audio output of the DSP DRA788 in a structure on two reference boards will be connected to just four inputs of the TPA3251.

3. Problem:
  1. DRA788 can't find the reference board, so it can't design itself.
  2. The reference board of the TPA3251 has a power specification but has not actually found a power supply design for that power specification. (First, the amplifier itself requires 36v and 12v power at the same time.)
  3. I don't know how to make the power supply structure when I connect the DSP reference board and amp reference board.
  4. This product is for audio and I don't have knowledge of the power supply, so I think it could cause problems if I do it wrong.
  5. Can PurePath create these audio designs and filters for DSP output?
  6. Is there any other TI's tool to set up DSP?

Please advise. Thank you very much.

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray

DRA788 can't find the reference board, so it can't design itself.

Please check if below board could be used.

    https://www.ti.com/tool/DRA78XEVM?keyMatch=DRA788%20EVM

The reference board of the TPA3251 has a power specification but has not actually found a power supply design for that power specification.

Customer always need to design the power supply system on their own board.

I don't know how to make the power supply structure when I connect the DSP reference board and amp reference board.

Usually input the highest voltage from DC power supply, or use AC/DC module, which could be bought in the market. Then use DC/DC or LDO device to transfer the voltage that you need.

This product is for audio and I don't have knowledge of the power supply, so I think it could cause problems if I do it wrong.

Power supply is usually not that difficult. Just take care of the power level for each of the voltage, and could choose device from below link:

    https://www.ti.com/power-management/non-isolated-dc-dc-switching-regulators/overview.html

Can PurePath create these audio designs and filters for DSP output?

PurePath could only generate register settings for our device. Can't generate for DSP like DRA788.

Is there any other TI's tool to set up DSP?

You could try to raise another Thread about device DRA788. But I'm afraid they won't give very detailed information about how to create audio filter in the DSP, that should be done by customer, we also can't share anything.

If you can't do it by yourself, I'd suggest you to use digital input device, like TAS3251 directly, that would be easier.
